Yves Henocque

Amazed by Japan, where he lived for many years, Yves Henocque developed a love for the culture and art of living in this country, to the point of learning artistic calligraphy. A revelation for this doctor in oceanology, former researcher, and main advisor “Maritime Policy and Governance” at Ifremer (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea). Fascinated by ink, extraordinary papers and their different powers of absorption that offer infinite possibilities, the artist works on both the diffusion and disappearance of type, especially very old type themselves in the process of extinction.

He also explores painting with inks, pigments, and glues to express the very special relationship of Japanese culture to nature. The artist was awarded the national prize “Ueno no mori” in Japan in 2017 for Un Hiver à Fukushima. The painting is exhibited in Charleval, in a very cozy room where his abstract or more figurative works are answered.

Château Charleval accueille l’exposition « Seasons of heaven », qui réunit les deux artistes, Aurélia Rocher et Joanna Cutri. Céramiques et toiles contemporaines se répondent et questionnent notre lien à la Mémoire et la Nature.
